1. Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang, Kyung-wha had a telephone conversation with Secretary of State of the United States Mike Pompeo on the morning of October 5 at the latter’s request.
2. Secretary Pompeo explained that his visit to the Republic of Korea this week was postponed due to unavoidable circumstances of the U.S. side and asked for the ROK side’s understanding. Minister Kang wished for a speedy recovery of President Trump and the First Lady and added that she was sorry that the visit was postponed.
° In addition, Minister Kang asked for the U.S. government’s support for Ms. Yoo Myung-hee, the Korean candidate, in the selection process for the next Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
3. The
Minister and the Secretary exchanged views on the ROK-U.S. relations as well as
the recent developments on the Korean Peninsula and agreed to continue
coordinating for an opportunity for a face-to-face meeting between them.
