1. The Foreign Ministry’s Brexit taskforce held its third meeting on August 18. At the meeting chaired by Deputy Minister for Economic Affairs Lee Tae-ho, the taskforce was briefed by the UK’s acting Ambassador Sue Kinoshita to the Republic of Korea on recent developments in the UK regarding Brexit and ways that the UK will cope with it down the road. A discussion among the participants ensued.

2. Deputy Minister Lee brought attention to the fact that in the wake of the UK referendum on Brexit on June 23, the taskforce had held two meetings to review relevant developments at home and abroad as well as possible ways for the ROK to cope with Brexit. He added that the market jitters on the heels of the UK referendum appear to have been eased.

3. Acting Ambassador Kinoshita, hailing the ROK Foreign Ministry’s operation of the Brexit taskforce, stated that the UK government will work closely with the ROK government to consolidate the bilateral relations regardless of Brexit.

4. The ROK Foreign Ministry will continue to closely monitor through its Brexit taskforce the relevant developments in the UK and the progress in the UK-EU negotiations on Brexit from a long-term perspective, and seek necessary measures.
