ROK and UNESCO to Co-host an Information Meeting on WEF 2015 and a Seminar on GCED

1. An Information Meeting on World Education Forum 2015 and a Seminar on Global Citizenship Education (GCED) will take place at the UN Headquarters in New York, the US, on March 6, co-hosted by the Foreign Ministry of the Republic of Korea and the UNESCO Secretariat.

◦ The events will bring together some 200 people, including the ROK’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN Oh Joon, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova, Ambassadors and diplomats to the UN from many other countries, officials of relevant international organizations and GCED experts.

2. The Information Meeting on the WEF, which will take place from 12:00 till 13:00, will cover the main agenda items and the progress in preparations for WEF 2015 set to be held in Songdo, Incheon, from May 19 through 22.

◦ The Seminar on GCED will be held from 13:30 till 15:00. It will feature presentations on global civic awareness for sustainable future; GCED for a more peaceful and inclusive world; the role of GCED in achieving the post-2015 development agenda; and cases of GCED implementation, followed by discussions among the participants.

3. The events are expected to serve as an opportunity to promote WEF 2015 to Ambassadors to the UN and other high-level officials and encourage world education leaders and education ministers of many countries to attend the forthcoming event.

◦ The events are also expected to help enhance global interest in and understanding of GCED, an education agenda whose international discussions are led by the ROK.
