1. Amid the progress in the search operations for the aircraft and the people on AirAsia Flight QZ8501, which crashed on December 28, 2014, the government of the Republic of Korea, as agreed with the Indonesian government, will send an interagency response team to the crash site on January 3.
◦ The seven-member interagency response team will be led by the Deputy Director-General for Overseas Koreans and Consular Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and composed of relevant officials of the Korea Coast Guard of the Ministry of Public Safety and Security, the Aviation and Railway Accident Investigation Board of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and the National Forensic Service.
2. The dispatch of the interagency response team will follow that of the emergency response team, which came on the heels of the crash. Through the interagency response team, the government will review the progress in the search and rescue efforts for the Korean victims and help identify them swiftly when they are found and participate in the investigation into the cause of the accident.
