1. The 1st Korea-Bosnia Herzegovina Policy Consultation was held in Sarajevo on July 9 with MOFAT’s
Deputy Minister for Political Affairs Lee Yong-joon and his Bosnian counterpart Ana Trisic-Babic leading
their respective delegations.
2. In the Policy Consultation, the two sides discussed in depth ways to vitalize high-level officials’
exchange, promote trade and investment and work together on the international stage, in addition
to a broad exchange of views on the current situations of the Korean peninsula and West Balkan.
Warmly welcoming the first-ever visit to the country by a Korean high-level official since the establishment
of diplomatic relations in 1995, the Bosnian side hoped for continued high-level consultations in the years
to come.
3. After taking note of steady development of Korea-Bosnia ties since the forging of diplomatic relations,
the Korean delegation proposed the two countries work more closely together in a wide range of fields,
including government affairs, economy and culture, on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of diplomatic
ties. Also, the Korean Foreign Minister’s letter of invitation to Korea for his Bosnian counterpart was
delivered.
4. In an effort to promote substantive cooperation, the two sides agreed to conclude at an early date the
ongoing negotiations over an agreement on investment guarantee and another on trade and economic
cooperation, both of which will function as an institutional foundation for a boost in economic cooperation
between Korea and Bosnia. The two delegations also concurred on expanding cultural and people-to-
people exchanges between the two countries. While the Bosnian side highly expected a visit to the
country by a Korean trade delegation, Korea requested Bosnia’s participation in the Expo 2012 in Yeosu.
5. With the two sides agreeing to close cooperation on the international stage, Bosnia, one of the UN
Security Council’s non-permanent members in the 2010-2011 term, reaffirmed its support for the Korean
position over the Cheonan incident and for peace and stability on the Korean peninsula.
